With Alkemia, initiate yourself for 3 days, to the joys of snowshoes, in the heart of winter, in a magical surrounding, where snow covers and smoothes the usually harsher landscape, composed of rocks and sharp lava.
This 3-day guided small group (8 people max) and snowshoeing trip, takes place in the North of Iceland, in the volcanic region of Mývatn.
Come join us at the origin of the earth, for a thalassotherapy on the edges of Iceland. A stay which mixes natural hot bath, watching of the northern lights, discovery of the inhabitants and their traditions, snowshoeing in the heart of the Icelandic nature. This trip is ideal for photographers, nature lovers and hikers… The immensity of the landscape, the very low population density, the quality of the water, the air, the silence and the light, make Iceland an ideal place to relax.
This stay is perfect to complete a self-drive trip around Iceland or in the North. A few additional days in the fjords and Eyjafjörður are also possible (contact us).
Your guide welcomes all the participants in Akureyri. After the presentations, your guide takes you to Mývatn, an hour drive. We snowshoe in the first volcanic site, the lava formations of Dimmuborgir for around 4-5 hours with numerous stops to explore the caves and meet the trolls… At the end of the afternoon, we will go to the Myvatn Baths for an enjoyable relaxation moment. Dinner at our guesthouse by the lake.
After a hearty breakfast taken by the lake where, if we are lucky, we will see some ducks enjoying the warmish waters. We set off to climb the Hverfell crater volcano and walk around its circumference, while admiring the 360° view that overlooks the surroundings. We will continue to the Grjótagjá fault, a lava tunnel located on the rift, which was used in a scene of Game of Thrones. Diner at the guesthouse and hot tub on site. Myvatn is a great area to watch the northern lights, if weather conditions permit it.
Today we are going to the Krafla caldera, for a walk on the site where the last eruption took place in 1984. This day will offer us a wonderful time between ice and fire. We will also walk in the solver fields of Hverir, at the foot of the Námaskarð mountain. After admiring this unique geothermal site where fumaroles, boiling mud pools and sulfur deposits coexist, we will take the road at the end of the day to return to Akureyri.
You can then either extend your stay in the fjord, continue with a self-drive trip or return to Reykjavik by domestic flight. Contact us for the organization.
